Gitarristen John McLaughlin var alltid intresserad av indisk musik och inför denna livespelning i South Hampton College hade han dragit ur sladden till gitarren och samlat en grupp indiska musiker kring sig. Gruppens namn var Shakti, som betyder "Creative intelligense, beauty and power".
