Den till synes outslitlige Sonny Rollins (f 1930) var 1950-talets store tenorsax-hjälte - och håller fortfarande ställningarna. Rollins gjorde två album för skivbolaget Riverside och de finns samlade på denna dubbel-LP: "Freedom Suite" och "The Sound of Sonny". På det förstnämnda spelar Rollins med en pianolös trio, Oscar Pettiford b och Max Roach dr. På det andra har han med sig Sonny Clark p, Percy Heath/Paul Chambers b och Roy Haynes dr.
