Count Basie och hans orkester var flitiga gäster på jazzklubben Birdland i New York och älskades av stamgästerna. Den här skivan har vi alltid tyckt vara en av Basies bästa live-plattor; bandet är i högform och det är gott om kompetenta solister, t ex Frank Foster, Frank Wess och Budd Johnson ts, Quentin Jackson tb, Thad Jones tp och naturligtvis Basie själv. Freddie Green, Eddie Jones och Sonny Payne ser till att det svänger på ett nästan vådligt sätt. Att Jon Hendricks hoppar in och tar en vocal på "Whirly bird" gör inte saken sämre.
