The Film Sense

Ill. "The Film Sense" by the internationally renowned Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein (1898-1948), is regarded as a classic statement on the aesthetics of film-making. It draws upon his experience in the creation of "Strike", "Potemkin", "Ten days that shook the world", "Old and new" and "Alexander Nevsky" to discuss film as a more expressive and profound medium that would appeal to all senses, as well as the emotions and the intellect. The book also includes a complete listing of Eisenstein´s pre-film and film work; an early theoretical essay; sequences from some of his scenarios; a bibliography of his writings; and all the diagrams and photographs of the original edition. Translated and edited by Jay Leyda.
