Great Moments - Rare sessions 1st time on CD
"...The soloists in the short-lived Buddy Rich Big Band generally include trumpeter Tommy Allison, trombonist Earl Swope, clarinetist Aaron Sachs and tenor saxophonist George Berg, along with the fiery drummer/leader. The music is forward-looking swing influenced a bit by bebop. If the music were being reissued completely and in chronological order, it would gain a higher rating, but even so, this obscure album should interest big band and bop collectors. Highlights include "What Is This Thing Called Love," "Great Moments," "Carioca" and "Four Rich Brothers"." (Scott Yanow, allmusic.com)
